Sunroof Frame, Removing And Installing, Q3 SPORTBACK: Removing
-- Remove the glass panel. Refer to GLASS PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, Q3 SPORTBACK .
-- Remove the glass trim. Refer to GLASS TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Lower the headliner and place it on the seats. Refer to OVERVIEW - HEADLINER .
-- Disconnect the connector -2- on the sunroof control module -1-.
Inner Side Adhesive Bead, Cutting:
-- Using the tool -1-, slide the Cutting Cord: VAS 861 001/1A behind the inner adhesive bead between the roof and sunroof frame -arrow-.
-- Grab the Cutting Cord: VAS 861 001/1A behind the inner adhesive bead with the Hook: T40207 and remove between the roof and the sunroof frame -arrow-.
-- Secure the removal device -2- with the reel device on the right inner side of the windshield.
-- Secure the Double Suction Lifter: V.A.G 1344 on the inner right side of the windshield.
-- Secure the front end of the Cutting Cord: VAS 861 001/1A to the suction lifter.
-- Slide the rear end of the cutting cord in the reel device on the removal device.
-- Tension the cutting cord with the reel device.
Risk of eye injury due to flying shavings.
Eye irritation and injury is possible.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Cut through the inner side adhesive bead -1-.
-- Repeat the procedure on the other side of the vehicle.
Cut through the surrounding exterior adhesive bead:
-- Prepare the Window Cutter: V.A.G 1561A to cut with Window Cutter - 25 mm Blade: V.A.G 1561/29 .
-- Remove the outer rubber seal from the sunroof frame. Refer to OVERVIEW - SLIDING SUNROOF, Q3 SPORTBACK .
-- Cut through the outer adhesive bead on the sunroof frame carefully using the Window Cutter - 25 mm Blade: V.A.G 1561/29 .
Cutting through the inner front adhesive bead:
Risk of damaging the wiring harness for the sunroof water drain if handled incorrectly.
- Cut the adhesive bead no deeper than specified.
-- Cut through the adhesive bead using the Window Cutter - 25 mm Blade: V.A.G 1561/29 at the same time cut a maximum 25 mm deep in the longitudinal member.
Cut through the adhesive bead if the sunroof frame is replaced:
-- Cut through the outer adhesive bead on the sunroof frame carefully using the Window Cutter - 25 mm Blade: V.A.G 1561/29 .
-- For the adhesive bead on the rear, guide the Window Cutter: V.A.G 1561A so that the rear edge of the sunroof frame is cut along the line -arrow-. Otherwise ignore the adhesive bead routing. Pay attention that the water drain retaining tabs are not damaged.
Cut the rear adhesive bead, if the sunroof frame is not replaced:
-- Cut through the outer adhesive bead on the sunroof frame carefully using the Window Cutter - 25 mm Blade: V.A.G 1561/29 .
-- If this is the case, guide the knives in the round openings -arrow- so that the adhesive bead is reached.
-- If necessary, use the slightly longer Window Cutter - 38 mm: V.A.G 1561/30 .
-- Remove the sunroof frame upward.
