Procedure
There is a risk of an accident due to an unsecured engine/transmission subassembly.
- Support the engine in the installation position during the following work.
-- Support the engine in the installation position. Refer to ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLATION POSITION .
-- Remove the front wheels. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
-- Remove the left and right wheel housing liner and wheel spoiler. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Loosen the left and right center underbody trim panels in the front area and lower them slightly. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS .
-- Bring the prepared Rear Axle Support: T10552 with the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS6931 to rest on the crossbrace.
- The Mounting Pins: T10552/1 engage in the holes on the back of the crossbrace.
-- Secure the crossbrace with the rear axle support tensioning strap -arrow-.
- To secure the subframe, a Locating Pin : T40327
must be installed at position -1- on the left and right side.
- The locating pins must only be tightened to a maximum of 20 Nm or else the locating pin bolts will be damaged.
- Due to the ribbed washers for the bolts, the holes for the subframe are slightly peened. They must be deburred if necessary.
Improper handling increases the risk of damaging the threads in the vehicle body.
- Never use an impact wrench to loosen or tighten.
- Position the bolts by hand only and screw in the first threads.
-- Replace the bolt -1- on both sides of the vehicle with : T40327 and tighten them to 20 Nm.
- The suspension is now secured.
-- Remove the bolts on the left and right side -arrows-.
Remove the : T40327
Removal is performed in the reverse order. Note the following:
Improper handling increases the risk of damaging the threads in the vehicle body.
- Never use an impact wrench to loosen or tighten.
- Position the bolts by hand only and screw in the first threads.
- Subframe bolts tightened.
-- Remove the locating pins and insert new bolts in their places. Tighten them in a diagonal sequence without any additional turns.
-- Remove the : 10-222A . Refer to ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLATION POSITION .
There is a risk of accident due to threaded connections that are not tightened correctly.
- Tighten threaded connections correctly before driving on public roads.
-- A road test must be performed after completing repairs.
- If the steering wheel is crooked, the wheels must be aligned. Refer to AXLE ALIGNMENT .
- If the vehicle does not need to be aligned, tighten the subframe bolts in a diagonal sequence with an additional turn.
