SUBFRAME With Steering Gear, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Versions with coil springs: determine the curb weight position. Refer to WHEEL BEARING, LIFTING TO CURB WEIGHT POSITION, VEHICLES WITH COIL SPRING .
-- Versions with air suspension: determine the standard vehicle height. Refer to WHEEL BEARING AT STANDARD VEHICLE HEIGHT, LIFTING VEHICLES WITH AIR SUSPENSION .
-- Remove the screw -arrow- and free up the ground wire.
-- Secure the subframe. Refer to SUBFRAME, SECURING .
-- Remove the front lower longitudinal member at the left and right. Refer to OVERVIEW - IMPACT MEMBER .
Equipment Versions with Sway Stabilization - Sway Stabilization Control Module in the Wheel Housing:
-- Remove the right front wheel housing liner rear section. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Disconnect the connectors -1 and 2- from the Sway Stabilization Control Module -J924-. Free up the wires.
-- Remove the nut -arrow- and free up the sway stabilization ground wire.
Equipment Version with Sway Stabilization - Sway Stabilization Control Module on the Right A-Pillar in the Vehicle Interior:
-- Remove the right front wheel housing liner. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Disconnect the electrical connector -1- in the right front wheel housing.
-- Free up the wiring harness -2-.
-- Remove the nut -arrow- and free up the sway stabilization ground wire.
Equipment Versions with Side Transmission Mount:
-- Remove the left and right bolts -arrows-.
Equipped on Some Models:
-- Disconnect the left and right connector -1- on the sensor with the assembly mounts actuator.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Disconnect the left and right connector -3- from the level control system sensor. Free up the wires.
-- Remove the nut -2-. Free up the coupling rod on the control arm.
-- Remove the screw -2-.
-- Disconnect the connector -3- and free up the wire.
-- Remove the screw -1-.
-- Release the catches -arrows- and free up the bracket -4- for the wires from the subframe.
TIP:
The illustration shows the installation position on a vehicle without the parking heater.
-- Free up the wire to the steering gear and to the stabilizer bar.
-- Disconnect the left and right connector -3- for the electrohydraulic engine mount solenoid valve.
-- Remove the connector -2- from the bracket and disconnect it. Free up the wire.
-- Equipment versions with support bearing: remove the left and right bolt -1- for the support bearing.
-- Remove the left and right bolts -arrow- for the subframe shield.
There Is a Risk of Damaging the Joints on the Upper Control Arm with a Load That Is Too Heavy.
- Support wheel bearing housing.
-- Tie up the wheel bearing housing on the left and the right with a : T10038 as shown.
-- To protect the threads, remove the nut -arrow- on the left and right side from the tie rod end joint pin until it is flush with the joint pin threads.
Abruptly Loosening the Tie Rod End When Removing Increases the Risk of Injury.
It Is Possible That Parts of the Body May Become Bruised.
- Secure the tool with the engine and gearbox jack placed underneath.
-- Remove the left and right tie rod end with the : VAS251805 from the wheel bearing housing.
-- Remove the nut to do so if necessary counterhold on the joint pin with a 6 mm inner hex socket.
-- Disconnect the left and right control arm threaded connections -1 and 3-.
-- Pivot the control arm toward the front.
TIP:
To remove the bolt -1 -, push the steering all the way to the left or right.
-- To protect the threads, remove the nut -arrow- on the left and right side from the guide link joint pin until it is flush with the joint pin threads.
Abruptly Loosening the Ball Joint When Removing Increases the Risk of Injury
It Is Possible That Parts of the Body May Become Bruised
- Secure the tool with the engine and gearbox jack placed underneath.
-- Remove the guide link joint pin with the : T10444 from the conical seat, at the same time do not damage the CV boot.
-- Remove the nut and free up the guide link on the wheel bearing housing. Counterhold at the joint pin with a TX 40 socket if necessary.
-- Loosen the left and right nuts -arrows- several turns and remove the nut -3-.
-- Remove the left and right bolt -4-.
-- Remove the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear and then push together. Refer to STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove engine bracket left and right bolt -arrow-.
-- Lower the subframe with the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS6931 .
- Make sure there is enough clearance for the wires when lowering the subframe.
