SUBFRAME, Securing

-- Loosen the bolts -arrows-.

-- Adjust the dimension -a-.

-- Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm.

-- Loosen the bolt -right arrow-.

-- Adjust the dimension -b-.

-- Tighten the bolt -arrow- to 10 Nm:

-- Loosen the left and right lower Support Bolts :T10552/1  -3-.

-- Adjust the dimension -c-.

-- Turn the left and right threaded sleeves on the Support Bolts:T10552/1  -3- until the dimension -d- is reached.

-- Position the adapter :T40386/1  and nut :T40386/2  on the support :T10552/2  and tighten by hand with the bolt -arrow-.

-- Place the Rear Axle Support:T10552  -1- on the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931  -2-.

-- Tighten the bolt -right arrow-.

Procedure

WARNING:

There is a risk of an accident due to an unsecured engine/transmission subassembly!

  • The engine must be supported in the installation position for the following steps.

-- Support the engine in the installation position. Refer to ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLATION POSITION - 2.0L DMSA , ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLATION POSITION - 2.0L DPVA , ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLATION POSITION - 3.0L .

-- Remove the front wheels. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the left and right front wheel spoiler and the drive axle cover. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .

-- Bring the prepared Rear Axle Support:T10552  with the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931  to rest on the crossbrace.

-- Secure the crossbrace using the tensioning strap -arrow- of the Rear Axle Support:T10552  .

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the threads on the subframe/crossbrace threaded connection to the body.

  • The subframe/crossbrace bolts on the body must not be loosened or tightened with an impact wrench.
  • Always install all bolts by hand for the first few turns.
NOTE:

To secure the subframe, a Locating Pins:T40327  must be installed at position -1- on the left and right side.

The locating pins must only be tightened to a maximum of 20 Nm or else the locating pin bolts will be damaged.

Due to the ribbed washers for the bolts, the holes for the subframe are slightly peened. They must be deburred if necessary.

-- Replace the bolts -1- on both sides of the vehicle with the Locating Pins:T40327  and tighten to 20 Nm.

-- Remove the bolts on the left and right side -arrows-.

Remove the Locating Pins:T40327 

Removal is performed in the reverse order. Note the following:

-- Remove the locating pins and tighten a new bolt at this position.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the threads on the subframe/crossbrace threaded connection to the body.

  • The subframe/crossbrace bolts on the body must not be loosened or tightened with an impact wrench.
  • Always install all bolts by hand for the first few turns.
WARNING:

Risk of accident!

  • If the vehicle will be driving on the streets, all bolts and nuts must be tightened properly according to the guidelines.

-- Remove the Engine Support Bridge:10-222A  . Refer to ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLATION POSITION - 2.0L DMSA , ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLATION POSITION - 2.0L DPVA , ENGINE, SUPPORTING IN INSTALLATION POSITION - 3.0L .

-- A road test must be performed after completing repairs. If the steering wheel is crooked, the wheels must be aligned. Refer to AXLE ALIGNMENT .
