Front Passenger Airbag Unit With Igniter, Removing And Installing: Installing
- Follow all pyrotechnic components safety precautions, refer to PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
- Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.
- Follow the allocation of the airbag to the instrument panel, refer to the Parts information.
Check the threaded bushings -1 and 2- are seated correctly on the airbag pins:
- Version A: retighten the threaded connection with the flat spot -arrow- if necessary to 2 Nm.
- Version B: do not retighten the round threaded connection.
The rest of the installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
-- Connect the connector -1- to the airbag igniter in direction of -arrow A-.
-- Install the connector locking mechanism -2- in direction of -arrow B-. While doing this, the connector is pushed into the airbag igniter and locks into place.
Make sure the connectors are installed correctly and are secure.
Make sure the wires do not get caught.
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
-- Connect the battery GND cable with the ignition turned on, refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING (A3 / A3 CABRIOLET) .
If the Airbag Indicator Lamp -K75- signals a fault after installing, check the DTC memory, erase it and check it again, refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
Installation note: For example tightening specifications, replace components, refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG , OVERVIEW - INSTRUMENT PANEL .
