Hydraulic System, Post-Bleeding

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit:VAS5234 with Brake Bleeder Adapter :VAS5234/1
or
Brake Filling and Bleeding Equipment:VAS6860 with Brake Bleeder Adapter :VAS5234/1A

Perform the post-bleeding procedure when:

The brake pedal travel is too long, or the so-called >>soft brake pedal<<

Read the operation literature for :VAS5234 or :VAS6860 .

Procedure

-- Fill the brake fluid reservoir with brake fluid up to the "max" mark.

-- Screw down the container.

NOTE:

A second technician is required for the post-bleeding procedure.

-- Connect the :VAS5234 with the :VAS5234/1 or :VAS6860 with the :VAS5234/1

-- Remove the protective cap -3- on brake caliper bleeder screw -1- and attach the bleeder bottle bleeder hose -2- to the bleed screw.

WARNING:

Brake fluid is caustic risk of skin injury.

Do not extract brake fluid by mouth.

Brake fluid is poisonous and must never be swallowed.

To prevent skin contact with brake fluid, wear chemical resistant safety gloves.

Brake fluid contact with fluids containing mineral oils causes malfunctions.

Brake fluid must never come into contact with fluids containing mineral oils (oil, gas, cleaning solutions). Safety gloves must be free of oil and grease.

Risk of damaging the painted surfaces.

Due to its corrosive nature, brake fluid must also never contact paint. Rinse off any leaking brake fluid immediately using plenty of water.

NOTE:

Use a suitable bleeder hose. It must be seated tightly on the bleed screw so that no air can enter the brake system.

Bleeding Sequence

1 - Left Front Brake Caliper

2 - Right Front Brake Caliper

3 - Left Rear Brake Caliper

4 - Right Rear Brake Caliper

NOTE:

Bleed the brake caliper at each bleed screw. If the brake caliper has two bleed screws, bleed the outer screw first.

-- Depress the brake pedal forcefully and hold.

-- Open the bleed screw on the brake caliper.

-- Press the brake pedal down until it stops.

-- Close the bleeder screw with the pedal depressed.

-- Release the brake pedal slowly.

-- Repeat the bleeding procedure in the specified sequence for the remaining brake calipers.

-- Fill the brake fluid reservoir with brake fluid up to the "max" mark.

-- Screw down the container.

NOTE:

This bleeding procedure must be performed five times per brake caliper.

A road test must be performed after bleeding. During this, at least one ABS control must be performed!

WARNING:

Risk of accident!

Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
