Hydraulic System, Bleeding With Brake Charger/Bleeding Unit
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit:VAS5234 with Brake Bleeder Adapter :VAS5234/1
- or
- Brake Filling and Bleeding Equipment:VAS6860 with Brake Bleeder Adapter :VAS5234/1A
- Read the operation literature for Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit:VAS5234 or Brake Filling and Bleeding Equipment:VAS6860 .
- Brake Bleeding Tool Set:VAS6564
- Wrench - Brake Bleeder Set:VAS5519
The bleeding of the hydraulic system using the :VAS5234 is described.
An initial pressure of 2 bar is required to bleed the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-.
Procedure
- Brake fluid is poisonous, and must never be siphoned by mouth under any circumstances.
- Wash off any brake fluid that comes into contact with the skin with a lot of water.
- If brake fluid comes in contact with the eyes, wash out the eye(s) and see a doctor.
-- Fill the brake fluid reservoir with brake fluid up to the "max" mark.
-- Connect the :VAS5234 with the :VAS5234/1 or :VAS6860 with the :VAS5234/1
-- Remove the protective cap -3- on brake caliper bleeder screw -1- and attach the bleeder bottle bleeder hose -2- to the bleed screw.
Brake fluid is caustic risk of skin injury.
Do not extract brake fluid by mouth.
Brake fluid is poisonous and must never be swallowed.
- To prevent skin contact with brake fluid, wear chemical resistant safety gloves.
Brake fluid contact with fluids containing mineral oils causes malfunctions.
- Brake fluid must never come into contact with fluids containing mineral oils (oil, gas, cleaning solutions). Safety gloves must be free of oil and grease.
Risk of damaging the painted surfaces.
- Due to its corrosive nature, brake fluid must also never contact paint. Rinse off any leaking brake fluid immediately using plenty of water.
Use a suitable bleeder hose. It must be seated tightly on the bleed screw so that no air can enter the brake system.
Bleeding sequence
1 - Left Front Brake Caliper
2 - Right Front Brake Caliper
3 - Left Rear Brake Caliper
4 - Right Rear Brake Caliper
Bleed the brake caliper at each bleed screw. If the brake caliper has two bleed screws, bleed the outer screw first.
-- With the bleeder bottle hose attached, leave the brake caliper bleeder valve open long enough so that the brake fluid flows out free of bubbles.
-- Tighten the bleed screw, remove the bleed hose and put the protective cap on the bleed screw.
-- Repeat the bleeding procedure in the specified sequence for the remaining brake calipers.
-- Fill the brake fluid reservoir under consideration of brake pad wear up to the MAX marking and install on the cap.
-- Start the engine and check the brake pedal travel and pressure.
-- If the pedal travel is too long, check the brake system for leaks or repeat the bleeding procedure.
-- Fill the brake fluid reservoir with brake fluid up to the "max" mark.
-- Screw down the container.
A road test must be performed after bleeding. During this, at least one ABS control must be performed!
Changing the Brake Fluid
Refer to BRAKE FLUID, CHANGING
Risk of accident!
- Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
