Overview - Camshaft Housing

  1. Bolt
    • Tightening Specifications and Sequence. Refer to Fig 2.
    • Replace after removing.
    • Use the old bolts for radial clearance measurement
  2. Bearing Cap
  3. Alignment Sleeves
  4. Exhaust Camshaft
  5. Camshaft Housing
    • Only replace the cylinder head and camshaft housing together
    • Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • Install with sealant. Refer to the Parts Information.
    • Perform the adaptation after removing or replacing using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester 01 - Engine electronics, functions  , 01 - Chain length diagnostic adaptation 
  6. Bolt
    • Replace after removing.
    • Use the old bolts for radial clearance measurement
    • Tightening Specifications and Sequence. Refer to Fig 3.
  7. O-Ring
    • Replace after removing.
  8. Oil Filler Neck
  9. Bolt
    • 11 Nm
  10. Seal
    • Replace after removing.
  11. Cap
  12. Seal
    • Replace after removing.
  13. Plug
    • 35 Nm
  14. Bolt
    • 4 Nm
  15. Cam Actuator
  16. O-Ring
  17. O-Ring
    • Replace after removing.
  18. Cap
  19. Bolt
    • 5 Nm
  20. Exhaust Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N318-
    • Removing and installing. Refer to Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205- / .
    • Perform the adaptation after removing or replacing. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester 01 - Engine electronics, functions  , 01 - Chain length diagnostic adaptation 
  21. O-Ring
    • Replace after removing.
  22. Bolt
    • 5 Nm
  23. Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205-
    • Perform the adaptation after removing or replacing. Refer to Vehicle Diagnostic Tester 01 - Engine electronics, functions  , 01 - Chain length diagnostic adaptation 
    • Removing and installing. Refer to Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205- / .
  24. O-Ring
    • Replace after removing.
  25. Bolt
    • Tightening specification -item  ) Bolt.
  26. Camshaft Adjuster
  27. Bolt
    • Tightening specification -item  ) Bolt.
  28. Camshaft Adjuster
  29. Intake Camshaft

Bearing Cap for Camshafts - Tightening Specification and Sequence

-- Tighten the bolts in the steps shown in the sequence:

Step Bolts Tightening Specification/Additional Turn
1. -1 through 10- Install by hand all the way
2. -1 through 10- 8 Nm
3. -1 through 10- 90° additional turn

-- Tighten the bolts in the steps shown in the sequence:

Step Bolts Tightening Specification/Additional Turn
1. -1 to 23- Install by hand until the bolt heads contact the camshaft housing.
2. -1 to 23- Turn one turn farther in several stages until the camshaft housing contacts the cylinder head completely and until 8 Nm torque is reached.
3. -1 to 23- 8 Nm 1)
4. -1 to 23- 90° additional turn
  • 1) If kept constant, all of the bolts will remain tightened to 8 Nm even after the camshaft housing is installed.

Engine Cover Bracket - Tightening Specification

-- Tighten the bolts -2- to 9 Nm.
