Camshaft, Measuring Radial Clearance

- Plastigauge®
Procedure
- Use the old bolts for radial clearance measurement.
-- Remove the camshaft housing. Refer to CAMSHAFT HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolts -10 to 1- and remove the bearing cap for the camshafts.
-- Remove the bearing cap for the camshafts.
-- Clean the bearing and the bearing journals.
-- Place the Plastigauge® over entire width of bearing journal or into the bearing.
- The Plastigauge® must rest in center of bearing.
-- Position the bearing cap and tighten it with the old bolts an additional turn. Refer to Figure. Do not turn the camshaft while doing so.
-- Reinstall the bearing cap.
-- Compare the width of the Plastigauge® with the measuring scale.
Radial clearance:
- 24 mm bearing: 0.024 to 0.066 mm.
- 36 mm bearing: 0.032 to 0.078 mm.
-- Replace the bolts for the final assembly.
