Driveshaft, Removing And Installing, AUDI S1: Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

• Tightening specifications. Refer to DRIVESHAFT ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW, AUDI A1 .

-- Inspect the shaft seal heat shield -4- on the bevel box for damages and replace if necessary.

• Always replace the O-ring -1- and locking ring -2- on the output shaft/shaft bevel gear -3-. Refer to Figure.
• Lubricate the splines on the output shaft/shaft bevel gear with Grease for Clutch Disc Shaft Splines: G 000 100  .

-- Remove the eye from the Tensioner: T40296  .

-- Position the driveshaft on the output shaft/shaft bevel gear for the bevel box.

-- Using a plastic mallet -1-, hit on the Tensioner: T40296  until the driveshaft locks into place on the output shaft.

• The driveshaft must stop at the bevel box and must not be able to be removed by hand from the bevel box.

-- Remove the Tensioner: T40296  .

-- Attach the heat shield -2- and the lock washers to the body.

-- Install the combi bolts -1- for the center bearing but do not tighten them.

-- Attach to the driveshaft to the rear final drive making sure the markings -arrows- are lined up.

-- Tighten the driveshaft bolts to the rear final drive.

-- Align the center bearing in the oblong holes so that neither the driveshaft nor the center bearing are under stress.

-- Tighten the center bearing combi bolts -1-.

-- Install the rear section of the exhaust system and align it so it is free of tension. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation II, As of 01.2018), OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation III, As Of 12.2017), or OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation II, As of 09.2016) .

-- Install the tunnel crossmember. Refer to UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL .

-- Install the driveshaft heat shield -2-. Refer to Overview - Heat Shield .

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to Overview - Noise Insulation .
