Transmission Fluid, Draining And Filling

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

Procedure 

NOTE:

Observe general notes. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION .

Follow the rules for clean working conditions. Refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

Follow all disposal regulations for transmission fluids. Refer to GENERAL REPAIR INFORMATION .

WARNING:

Danger of personal injury.

  • The coolant fan can come on by itself, even when the ignition is turned off, for example, caused by heat build-up inside the engine compartment.
  • Wear protective eyewear.
  • Wear acid-resistant safety gloves.
CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the transmission.

  • Do not start the engine if there is little or no oil in the transmission due to repair work or severe loss of transmission fluid.
  • In this case, fill first with S tronic transmission fluid.

Conditions

NOTE:

All safety precautions, notes and test requirements must be observed. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .

Transmission Fluid, Draining

-- Replace the transmission oil filter. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID FILTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Place the : SMN372500  under the transmission.

-- Remove the drain and check plug -A-.

-- Remove the overflow pipe -C- from the opening on the drain and check plug.

-- Drain any remaining transmission fluid.

-- Reinstall the overflow pipe.

Transmission Fluid, Filling 

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the transmission.

  • Only the transmission fluid available as a replacement part may be used in the DSG transmission 0D9. Refer to the Parts Information.
  • Using other fluids can cause malfunctions or transmission failure.
  • The oil filler adapter must be clean and transmission fluid must not be mixed with another fluid!

-- Measure the length -a- of the vent pipe on the transmission fluid container and shorten it if necessary before installing the adapter for oil filling : VAS6262A  . Refer to Measure the Length of the Bleed Pipe on the transmission fluid container. Shorten it if Necessary. .

-- Shake before opening.

-- Attach the transmission fluid container on the : VAS6262A  .

-- Install the : VAS6262A  into the opening for the drain and check plug -arrow 1- hand-tight.

-- Hold the container and : VAS6262A  as high as possible over the transmission and fill the transmission with approximately 5.2 liters (5.5 qts) of transmission fluid.

-- Shift the selector lever in "P", push the parking brake button, in order to lock the electro-magnetic parking brake.

-- Press the brake pedal and hold it down.

-- Start engine and run at idle.

-- With brake pressed, shift through all selector lever positions "P, R, N, D/S" at idle, retaining each position for at least 3 seconds.

-- Move the selector lever into "P".

-- Check transmission fluid level. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .
