Ball Bearing, Transmission Output Shaft With Splines

Thrust Plate VW 402
Thrust disc VW 412
Press Tube 2040
Tube 60 mm Dia. VW 415 A

Procedure

-- Remove the center differential housing. Refer to CENTER DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING, TRANSMISSION INSTALLED .

-- Remove the locking ring -A- on the transmission output shaft and the ball bearing locking ring -B-.

-- Remove the transmission output shaft and the transmission output shaft seal from the center differential housing. Refer to TRANSMISSION OUTPUT SHAFT WITH SPLINES .

-- Remove the transmission output shaft ball bearing.

-- Install the transmission output shaft ball bearing.

The shoulder on the VW 415 A -arrow- faces the VW 412.

-- Install the ball bearing locking ring -B-.

NOTE:

Ignore -A-.

-- Install the transmission output shaft seal and the transmission output shaft with splines into the center differential housing. Refer to TRANSMISSION OUTPUT SHAFT WITH SPLINES .

-- Install the center differential housing. Refer to CENTER DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING, TRANSMISSION INSTALLED .

-- Fill gear oil in transfer case. Refer to TRANSFER CASE GEAR OIL, DRAINING AND FILLING .
