Electrical/electronic components and locations

Data Link Connector (DLC) 

Location: below knee padding on left side of steering wheel

The following components can be tested in the "Guided fault finding" using vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 A.

Mechatronics unit, Transmission Control Module (TCM) J217, Multi-function transmission range (TR) switch F125, Transmission input speed (RPM) sensor G182 and Transmission output speed (RPM) sensor G195 

Location: the mechatronics unit is bolted to the underside of the transmission housing and covered by the transmission oil pan.

The mechatronics unit incorporates the hydraulic control system, the electronic control module and the sensors and actuators as a complete synchronized unit. This includes:

The "mechatronics" unit can only be replaced as a complete unit.

NOTE:
  • All components mentioned are tested via Self-diagnosis.

Internal wiring harness in transmission 

Location: the wiring harness - - with connector - - is attached to the mechatronics unit - -.

Transmission Range (TR) Display Y6 

Location: integrated into instrument cluster

NOTE:
  • The Transmission Range (TR) Display Y6 can only be replaced together with instrument cluster.

NOTE:
  • In the event of faults, first check that magnet is properly secured on the transverse slide - - of the sliding cover. Replace sliding cover if necessary. Always check wiring before replacing symbol insert with integrated printed circuit. On vehicles with multi-function steering wheel the buttons on the steering wheel and their wiring connections must also be checked.
