Input Shaft Cover, Removing And Installing: Installing
-- Replace the input shaft ball bearing. Refer to INPUT SHAFT BALL BEARING, REPLACING .
-- Place the input shaft cover on the input shaft and press it on by hand as far as possible.
-- Place the input shaft -B- on the :VW401 .
Place the input shaft straight and centered under the hydraulic press punch; otherwise the input shaft can tip to the side when the cover is pressed on.
-- Press the input shaft cover -A- all the way onto the input shaft with the hydraulic press using the :VW416B .
-- When installing, circlip -A- must be replaced with a new circlip of the same thickness.
- The circlip must fit inside the bottom of the groove.
-- Check wear on transmission components. Refer to INPUT SHAFT, CHECKING FOR WEAR .
-- Replace the O-ring on the oil pipe -2-.
- The oil pipe is pressed into the input shaft with the O-ring -2-.
- The oil pipe must engage noticeably, the rotor blades -arrow A- on the oil pipe must lie completely inside the input shaft.
-- Press the oil pipe -arrow- all the way down into the input shaft.
- The distance from the end of the oil pipe up to the input shaft is approximately 11.5 mm -a- when the oil pipe is inserted all the way.
If the dimension is smaller, the oil pipe may be damaged because it was pushed in too far and is broken at the end.
If the dimension is larger, it is not pushed in far enough.
A damaged oil pipe can cause start-up problems or transmission failure.
- The input shaft may not be placed on the protruding oil pipe -arrow-.
