Mandatory Replacement Parts
- Circlip
- Input shaft cover is removed. Refer to INPUT SHAFT COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Adapting the :T40099 for use on the multitronic transmission 0AW FWD. Refer to Pressure Stand .
-- Remove the circlip -1-.
-- Measure and note the thickness of the removed circlip.
When installing, the circlip must be replaced with a new circlip with the same thickness.
-- Place the input shaft cover -1- on the :T40099 and place it under the hydraulic press.
-- Pry out the input shaft ball bearing from the input shaft cover using the :VW416B .
In some cases, the input shaft ball bearing can also be pressed out by hand without the hydraulic press.
The input shaft ball bearing must be replaced.
Check the input shaft cover. Refer to INPUT SHAFT COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Replace the input shaft cover if the contact surface or the cover is damaged.
A new input shaft ball bearing is necessary whenever a new input shaft cover is installed.
-- Replace the input shaft ball bearing -2- if the contact surface or the cover is not damaged.
-- Clean the ball bearing seat in the cover.
- Pay close attention to the position of the input shaft ball bearing: the ball bearing cage must face downward in the cover and the open side of the ball bearing must face up. In other words, the balls must be visible in the bearings during installation.
-- Install the ball bearing flush and press in by hand as far as possible.
There is a risk of damaging the input shaft cover.
- To ensure that the input shaft cover rests evenly on the :VW401 , make sure that the lug -arrow- is in a recess on the press plate.
-- Place the input shaft cover on the :VW401 .
-- Install the input shaft ball bearing all the way in using the :2010 .
-- When installing, the circlip -1- must be replaced with a new circlip with the same thickness.
-- Make sure the locking ring fits correctly. Install the ball bearing again or use the next thinner locking ring.
