CAUTION:
Risk of damaging valves and piston heads after working on valve train.
- The motor must not be started for about 30 minutes after installing camshafts because the hydraulic equalization elements must seat themselves.
- To ensure valves do not strike pistons when starting, carefully rotate engine at least two full revolutions.
NOTE:
The cylinder head for cylinder bank 2 (left) is shown in the illustration.

- Do not rework, only lapping is permitted
- Mark the installed position for installation later
- Checking, refer to VALVES, CHECKING .

- Valve guides, checking, refer to VALVE GUIDES, CHECKING .
- Cylinder Head
- Valve guides, checking, refer to VALVE GUIDES, CHECKING .
- Valve seats, reworking, refer to VALVE SEATS, REWORKING .
- Valve Stem Seal
- Replacing with the cylinder head installed, refer to VALVE STEM SEALS, CYLINDER HEAD INSTALLED, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Replacing with the cylinder head removed, refer to VALVE STEM SEALS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING WITH CYLINDER HEAD REMOVED .

- Axial play, measuring, refer to CAMSHAFT, MEASURING AXIAL CLEARANCE .
- Radial play, measuring, refer to CAMSHAFT, MEASURING RADIAL CLEARANCE .
- Maximum run out: 0.01 mm
- Bearing Cap
- Removing and installing, refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Pay attention to the installed position.
- Bracket
- For the tension clamp
- Tightening specification: 2.5 Nm on camshaft bearing
- Tightening specification: 9 Nm on cylinder head
- Refer to OVERVIEW - FUEL INJECTORS -item 1-.
- Bolt

- Bearing Block

- Pay attention to the installed position.
- Adapter Sleeves
- Only for the rear thrust bearing with the camshaft axial bearing
