Camshaft, Measuring Axial Clearance

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Dial Gauge Holder VW387
- Dial Gauge - 0-10mm VAS6079
Procedure
-- Remove the camshafts, refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Mark the assignment of the roller rocker lever for installation later.
-- Remove the roller rocker lever and place it on a clean surface.
-- Re-install the camshafts with the external bearing caps, refer to Figure.
-- Secure the Dial Gauge - 0-10mm VAS6079 on the cylinder head with the Dial Gauge Holder VW387 as illustrated.
Intake camshaft axial play
- Specified value: 0.0682 to 0.0750 mm.
Exhaust camshaft axial play
- Specified value: 0.0682 to 0.0750 mm.
