Upper Oil Pan: Installing

NOTE:

Replace seals and O-rings.

WARNING:

Risk of eye injury.

  • Wear safety glasses.

-- Using rotating plastic brush, remove any remaining sealant from oil pan (upper part) and at cylinder block.

-- Clean the sealing surfaces, they must be free of oil and grease.

NOTE:

Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.

-- Cut tube nozzle at front marking (nozzle diameter approximately 1 mm).

-- Insert new seals -1 to 4- into grooves on cylinder block.

CAUTION:

The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

  • Do not apply sealant bead thicker than specified.

-- Apply sealant beads -1 and 2- to the clean sealing surfaces on the oil pan upper section as illustrated.

NOTE:

The oil pan (upper section) must be installed within 5 minutes after application of sealant.

-- Position the upper section of the oil pan and tighten the bolts. Refer to Figure.

The rest of the installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

-- Install oil pump. Refer to OIL PUMP .

-- Install coolant pump. Refer to COOLANT PUMP .

-- Install lower section of oil pan. Refer to INSTALLING .

-- Install front coolant pipe. Refer to FRONT COOLANT PIPE .

-- Install generator. Refer to GENERATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install lower timing chain cover. Refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER .

-- Install the crankshaft seal on the transmission side. Refer to CRANKSHAFT SEAL, TRANSMISSION SIDE .

-- Install oil filter housing. Refer to OIL FILTER HOUSING .

-- Install intake manifold. Refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install left and right timing chain covers. Refer to LEFT AND RIGHT TIMING CHAIN COVERS .

-- Install drive plate. Refer to DRIVE PLATE .
