Install in reverse order of removal. Be sure to note the following:
-- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips halfway with sealing grease G 052 128 A1.
-- Place the new seal -A- on the T40222/1.
Make sure the spring on the seal is behind the sealing lip when it is installed.
-- Coat the outer circumference of the shaft seal with gear oil.
-- Install the T40222/1 and the shaft seal -A- on the pinion -B-.
-- Install the new shaft seal all the way without tilting it.
-- Heat the flange/driveshaft -B- to 115°C (239°F) using the VAS 6414 or a hotplate.
- Wear protective gloves.
- Monitor the temperature with a VAS 6519 if using a hotplate.
-- Position the flange/driveshaft -B- on the pinion -A- so that the marking -arrow- lines up.
-- Install the flange/driveshaft all the way using the T10380.
Install the locking ring -1- as follows:
- Always replace the locking ring -1-.
- The bevel on the inner diameter of the locking ring -arrow A- faces out, toward the driveshaft.
- The wide strip on the locking ring -arrow B- must be on the right side, as illustrated. Refer to Fig 5.
-- Measure the thickness of the old locking ring -1-.
-- Install a new locking ring -1- having the same thickness as the old one.
-- Install the new locking ring -1-.
It is necessary to determine the circlip -arrow- when replacing the flange/driveshaft.
First determine and then install the thickest possible circlip that can be installed into the groove -arrow- that can be used; for the correct part number.
