Engine Timing Cover

REMOVAL
- Remove the powertrain from the vehicle, separate the engine from the transmission and place the engine on a maintenance stand. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the flexplate. Refer to
FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the engine rigid mount (1b), left side.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and position aside the wiring (1b).
- Disconnect the starter motor wire harness connector (2).
- Remove the guard (1a), the nut (1b), and disconnect the feed cable (1c).
- Remove the bolts (1a), (1b) and the starter motor support (1c).
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the starter motor (1b) from the timing cover.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the heat shield (1b).
- Remove the bolts (1a) and position aside the wiring (1b).
- Disconnect the engine oil pressure sensor wire harness connector (1).
- Disconnect the engine wiring connector, right-left side (2).
- Remove the bolts (3a) and position aside the wiring (3b).
- Remove the wire harness connector (1) from the retaining bracket.
- Remove the bolts (2a) and position aside the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor (2b) without disconnecting the wire harness connector.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and position aside the mounting bracket (1b) complete with engine wiring.
- Remove the bolt (1) from the right turbocharger inner heat shield to the timing cover.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the engine wiring bracket (1b).
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the engine wiring bracket (1b).
- Remove the bolts (1a) and the engine wiring retaining bracket (1b).
- Remove the bolts (1) securing the timing cover to the crankcase and cylinder heads.
- Remove the nuts (1) securing the timing cover to the crankcase.
- Remove the timing cover (2).
- Remove the metal gasket (1).
- Remove all sealant residues.
- If required, remove the oil seal from the timing cover.
INSTALLATION
- Remove all sealant residues.
- Apply a bead of suitable sealant in the zones indicated in the figure.
- Install the metal gasket.
- Install the timing cover, engaging the studs and the locating pins.
- Using the tightening sequence shown in illustration, tighten the nuts and bolts securing the timing cover, following the order shown in illustration
for steps 6, 7, and 8.
- Install the nuts (2) securing the timing cover to the lower crankcase and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the nuts (3) securing the timing cover to the crankcase and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to
TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Position the wiring retaining brackets, install the bolts securing the timing cover to the lower crankcase and cylinder heads and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- If removed, install a NEW oil seal in the timing cover. Refer to SEAL, CRANKSHAFT OIL, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the bolts for the right turbocharger inner heat shield to the timing cover and securely tighten.
- Install the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor and tighten the bolt to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the engine wiring connector, right-left side, and engage it on the retaining bracket.
- Connect the engine oil pressure sensor wire harness connector.
- Install the wiring bracket bolt and securely tighten.
- Install the left turbocharger inner heat shield and securely tighten the bolts.
- Install the starter motor (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

- Install the starter motor support (1a) and tighten the bolts (1b) (1c) to the proper. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the starter motor power lead and securely tighten the nut and close the protection.
- Connect the starter motor wire harness connector.
- Install the wiring and securely tighten the bolts.
- Install the engine mount bracket (1a), left side, and tighten the bolts (1b) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the flexplate. Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the engine from the maintenance stand, install the transmission to the engine and install the powertrain in the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
