The BSI does not come on when other vehicles are in the detectable area (No indication)

NOTE:
  • If the system malfunctions, always check for DTCs with the HDS.
  • If a DTC is stored, troubleshoot the DTC first.
  1. Check BSI OFF switch and make sure the BSI system is ON.

    Is the BSI system ON? 

    YES  -Go to step 2.

    NO  -Cancel the OFF status by operating the BSI OFF switch.

  2. Interview the client about when the symptom occurred to determine if an inspection is needed.
    NOTE: The BSI system cannot work properly in the following driving situations.
    • When towing a trailer.
    • In rainy, snowy, or foggy weather.
    • When small targets in the detectable area cannot reflect radar; e.g. a motor bike.
    • When the ice, snow, or dirt is stuck to the rear bumper.
    • When driving in a traffic lane divided with road marking ramps.
    • When a vehicle comes over in the lane next to yours from a far lane.
    • When the temperature around the sensor is high.
    • When the rear bumper is deformed.
    • When the sensor is out of place.
    • When a portion of bumper around the installed sensor is soiled.

    Is an inspection required? 

    YES  -Go to step 3.

    NO  -The system is OK at this time. Check the rear bumper for dirt contamination. If everything looks OK, explain the BSI system limitations to the client.

  3. Make sure that the rear bumper is correctly installed, and check the rear bumper for alteration or deformation.

    Is the bumper OK? 

    YES  -Go to step 4.

    NO  -If the rear bumper is incorrectly installed, reinstall it correctly. If it is damaged or deformed, replace it. If it is modified, explain to the client that modifying rear bumper may lead to improper BSI system operation.

  4. Remove the rear bumper (see FRONT BUMPER SKID TRIM REPLACEMENT ).
  5. Check the inside and outside of rear bumper for dirt, contaminants, or stickers. Also, check the BSI radar unit surface for dirt or contaminants.

    Are the bumper and the BSI radar unit OK? 

    YES  -Go to step 6.

    NO  -Completely wipe off any dirt or contaminants from the BSI radar unit or rear bumper.

  6. Check the body surface where the BSI radar unit installs for deformation.

    Is the body surface OK? 

    YES  -Go to step 7.

    NO  -Repair the BSI radar unit mounting area 

  7. Check the BSI radar unit for damage.

    Is it OK? 

    YES  -Inspect the BSI radar unit mounting area 

    NO  -Replace the BSI radar unit
