Checking the signal cable

The voltmeter should read 5 V. 



Check the cable between engine control module (ECM) terminal #34 and the combined instrument panel connector terminal #B23. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Short-circuit to supply voltage. Permanent faults .

Remedy as necessary.
