Cooling System, Draining/Refilling

Conditions

Remove the front splash protector.

Draining of coolant

NOTE: Connect a hose to the drain valve to collect the coolant.

Remove the cover from the coolant reservoir.
Open the drain valve on the right side of radiator and drain coolant.
Close drain valve when all the coolant has drained out.

CAUTION: When replacing the cooling water it is also important that the engine be drained.

Remove cylinder block drain plug.
Rinse the cylinder block with water.
Apply sealant (art. no. 116 1056) to the drain plug and tighten.
Torque setting: 28.8 ft lb

Refilling and bleeding of cooling system

Top off cooling system via coolant reservoir.
Remove bleeder screw on thermostat housing and re-install when coolant trickles out. Install a new gasket. Tighten the bleeder screw.
Torque setting: 10.3 ft lb.

Total coolant volume is approximately 1.6 gallons .
Heat and re-fill coolant.
Check for leaks.
