Gear Shifting Speeds, Km/h
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Volvo S40, 2003 Volvo S40, 2002 Volvo S40, 2001 Volvo S40, and 2000 Volvo S40. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The AW50-42 automatic transmission is equipped with a "mode selector" with three different driving modes: Economy (E), Sport (S) and Winter (W). Gear shift speeds and mechanical lock-up vary depending on which mode is selected and which gear (D, 3, L) engaged. The following are the gear shift speeds for the three driving modes at different throttle openings. The gear selector is in position D. For information about engaging/disengaging lock-up, see Mechanical Lock-up .
The speeds in the chart should be used as guidelines. This is because it is difficult to take exact readings while test driving the car.
1)E = Economy, S = Sport, W = Winter.
