Possible causes of squeaking, knocking, rattling and rustling

The wind deflector is rattling:

• See Removing/installing the wind deflector .

Model years before 1998:  If the wind deflector does not fit, install a new rubber seal. See Seals .

Wind noise from the sliding sun roof:

• See Adjusting the glass panel in the roof opening .

The interior lighting rattles:

• Apply butyl tape between the steel support and the plastic edge at the front.

The switch is rattling:

• Secure the relay and casing with butyl tape.

Model years before 1998: 

If the headlining rattles at the front, apply a piece of foam rubber (20x20x10 mm) over the keypad (A).

If the motor for the sun roof rattles, apply a piece of foam rubber between the motor mounting and the motor (B).

Rattling from the front edge of the cassette for the sliding sun roof:

• Remove the headlining.

  Slacken off the two screws (self-tapping) and the mounting screws at the front.

  Apply butyl tape or felt between the roof and the support for the sun roof

• Tighten to: screws: 10 Nm, screws: 5 Nm.

Noise from cables:

• Remove the headlining at the front.

  Make an S-bend in the casings for both the control cables (do not clamp them together)

• If necessary, secure cables, connectors and hoses with butyl tape to eliminate noise.
