Parking Brake Shoes: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2004 Volvo S80, 2004 Volvo S60, 2003 Volvo S80, 2003 Volvo S60, and 2002 Volvo S80. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the brake shoes.
  2. Install the spacer and the small return spring on the brake shoes. See Fig 1.

  3. Install the lower mounting spring. Press in the spring (1) and turn it slightly (less than 1/4 turn). See Figure.
  4. Install the upper mounting spring. Check that the brake shoes are in the correct position in the expander.
  5. Install the return spring be the expander. Check that the mounting springs are secure.
  6. Install the brake disc and the locating pin. Tighten the pin to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Check the brake pads and replace if necessary.
  8. Press the brake pads in the caliper apart. Install the caliper holder and the brake caliper. See Fig 2.

  9. NOTE: Manufacturer recommends using new brake caliper holder bolts if loosened or removed.
  10. Tighten the NEW caliper holder mounting bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  11. Install wheels and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  12. Adjust parking brake. See PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
