Expansion valve, replacing: Removal

• First read Before starting work on the expansion valve 
• Disconnect the battery negative lead. See Battery, replacing
• Drain the refrigerant from the system. See Refrigerant, draining
• Remove the engine stabilizer brace in the engine compartment. For 5 cylinder engines Replacing cross stay/upper torque rod
• Remove the engine stabilizer brace in the engine compartment. For 6 cylinder engines Replacing cross stay/upper torque rod

Open: 

• the clamp for the refrigerant pipe on the side member.

• To replace the heat shield, see Replacing the heat shield for the thermostatic expansion valve .

• Remove the refrigerant pipes from the expansion valve. Pull the holder back slightly
• Detach the pipes from the expansion valve. Carefully move the pipes out of the way.

• Remove the screws holding the expansion valve
• Remove the expansion valve.
