Ignition on.
Activate the rear windshield defroster.

Check if the fault is permanent or intermittent.

The rear windshield defroster relay clicks when it is activated.

The fault is permanent if the rear windshield defroster does not activate.

If the rear windshield defroster is activated, this is an indication that the fault was present previously but that it is not active at the moment, i. e. the fault is intermittent.
