Checking Connectors

Ignition off.
Check and remedy the ECC control module and engine control module (ECM) connectors for contact resistance and oxidation according to Contact Resistance And Oxidation .
Check carefully for signs of damage etc.
To disconnect ECC control module, refer to Replacing ECC control module .
Reinstall components, reconnect connectors etc.
Disconnect the Volvo Scan Tool (ST) from the VADIS station. Use it in stand alone mode and connect it to the data link connector (DLC) in the car.
Ignition on.
Go into scrolling values.
Read off engine coolant temperature (ECT).
Check the engine coolant temperature (ECT) reading is correct. Compare with the actual coolant temperature of the engine.

HINT: To obtain the engine temperature, read off engine coolant temperature (ECT) from the engine control module (ECM).

If temperature is now OK this indicates that the fault was caused by poor contact in the connectors.

Is the temperature reading OK?

YES
OKAY: Troubleshooting has been completed.
NO
