Tighten the Left Drive Shaft Nut

Use counterhold 9995461 (4 wheel studs) or counterhold 9995540 (5 wheel studs) and bevel protractor 9512050 . Tighten the nut to 120 Nm+60° .
Remove the counterhold.
Lock the drive shaft nut
Knock the nut lock flange into the drive shaft groove. Use a cold chisel.
Install:
- The bracket for the brake pipe and the ABS cable on both sides.
CAUTION:
Ensure that the seat for the ABS sensor is absolutely clean
- First clean the ABS sensor. Use a soft brush. Then install the sensor in the stub axle. Tighten to 10 Nm
- The plastic nut and the TORX screws on the fender liner on the left-hand side. (The TORX screws have been discontinued on later versions.).
Install:

- The cable conduit on the sub-frame
- The carbon filter container. Clamp the hoses to the sub-frame. Use a tie strap. Hook the hoses into the sub-frame
- The splash guard under the engine. (Early versions).
Install:
- The front cover. Press the cover into place at the front edge. Press the cover forward and upwards at the rear so that cover guide is seated in its slot. Install the screws
- The wheels. Ensure that the brake disk and wheel rim mating surfaces are clean. Lubricate the hub guide lug for the rim. Use rustproofing agent 1161405-4. Install the wheel studs but do not tighten. Then tighten crosswise to 110 Nm . When tightening with an impact wrench, torque socket 1158147 must be used.
Install the five screws between the transmission and the engine and between the transmission and the starter motor
CAUTION:
Do not forget the bracket for the radiator hose.
- Tighten the screws for the transmission and engine to 50 Nm
- Tighten the screws for the transmission and starter motor to 40 Nm .
Install:
- The wiring clamp(s)
- The ground lead
- The clutch slave cylinder
- The circlip.
CAUTION:
Carefully remove the temporary tie strap around the throwout fork.
Install:

- The connector for the back-up (reversing) light switch
- The outer gear selector lever and the split pin
- The gear selector cables on the mountings for the bracket.
CAUTION:
The outer mounting and the gear selector cable that will be positioned outermost are marked yellow.
- Lubricate the lugs on the gear selector lever with grease, P/N 1161241-3
- The gear selector cables on the levers
- The two washers and the two clips.
Install:
- The ground strip in the firewall
- The screw and the nut for the torque control arm and torque rod.
CAUTION:
Use a new screw and lock nut.
Lock nut P/N:
- M8 (on early version cars) 948 645-7
- M10 (on late version cars) 971 098-9.
NOTE:
The lock nut is standard on later version cars.
Tighten to:
- M8 18 Nm. Angle-tighten 120°
- M10 35 Nm. Angle-tighten 90° .
Cars with turbocharged engines only:

Install:
- The oil cooler hose to the oil cooler
- The intake manifold to the throttle body (TB)
- The cover over the control pulley
- The hose and clamp for the charge air pipe hose above the engine
- The intake pipe for the turbocharger (TC).
Install:
- The expansion tank
- The screws securing the bracket for the air cleaner (ACL) housing
- The battery shelf
- The timer valve on the air cleaner (ACL) housing (cars with turbocharged engines only)
- The air cleaner (ACL) housing with the fresh air hose and connections
- The battery
- The hoses to the regulator valve. (Cars with an EGR valve only.).
