Flange/Driveshaft Seal On Rear Final Drive, Replacing: Removing

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Remove the rear section of the exhaust system. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER - 2.0L , OVERVIEW - MUFFLER - 3.6L .

-- Remove the rear driveshaft from the final drive -arrows-.

-- Counterhold using :T10172  when loosening and tightening the bolts.

-- Remove the center tunnel heat shield under the intermediate bearing. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HEAT SHIELD .

-- Loosen the bolts -arrows- for the driveshaft intermediate bearing until the intermediate bearing can be moved back and forth in the oblong holes. Do not remove the bolts completely.

-- Remove the pendulum support bolts -1- from the transmission.

-- Secure the :T10346/1  with a M 8 x 25 bolt on the subframe as shown.

-- Attach the :T50015  on the :T10346/1  and on the transmission on the front threaded connection for the pendulum support.

-- By turning the spindle of the :T50015A  push the engine with the transmission slightly forward.

-- Remove the driveshaft from the final drive and lay it on the tank. Place a cloth on the tank to protect it.

-- When removing and installing the driveshaft, always be careful not to damage the bushing -arrow-.

-- Tie the vehicle to the hoist with :T10038  .

WARNING:

The vehicle could slide off the hoist if it is not secured.

-- Remove the flange/driveshaft hex nut.

A -  M10 x 25 Bolts

B -  M8 x 15 Bolt (installed in the :3415  from the rear)

-- Remove the flange/driveshaft. If it is difficult use the :VAS251201  .

-- Remove the seal using the :VW681  .
