• Camshaft Bar:T10068A 
• Counterhold - Multiple Use:T10172A 
• Torque Wrench, 6-50Nm:VAG 1331A 
• Torque Wrench, 40-200Nm:V.A.G 1332A 
• Adjustment Tool:T10363 
• Applicator Gun:VAS 6966

Not illustrated:

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Sealant:D 176 501 A1 

Conditions:

• Transmission removed
• Drive plate removed
• Oil pan removed
• Sealing flange removed
• Cylinder head cover removed

-- Remove the camshaft drive timing chain. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Counterhold at the vibration damper with the Counterhold - Multiple Use:T10172A  .

-- Loosen the chain sprocket bolt -arrow- approximately 1 turn.

-- Detach the chain tensioner with a 3 mm hex socket wrench -A-.

-- Remove the tensioner for the oil pump drive chain -arrows-.

-- Remove the chain sprockets with the timing chain from the oil pump.

Installing:

-- Position the crankshaft at TDC.

• The milled drive chain sprocket tooth -arrow- must align with the bearing joint.

-- Turn the oil pump shaft -1- with the flat side -arrow- horizontal to marking -2- on the oil pump.

-- Install the timing chain into the guide rail and mount it on to the crankshaft.

-- Insert the large chain sprocket in the timing chain so that the marked hole -arrow B- is aligned with the marking on the oil pump.

-- Place the chain sprocket on the oil pump shaft and tighten hand-tight.

-- Install the timing chain tensioner -arrows-. Tightening specification. Refer to  OVERVIEW - CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAINS => List Item:10 Nm.

-- Remove the hex socket wrench -A-.

-- Check the adjustment markings.

• Milled drive chain sprocket tooth -arrow A- must align with bearing joint.
• The marked hole -arrow- must be aligned with the marking on the oil pump.

-- Counterhold at the vibration damper with the Counterhold - Multiple Use:T10172A  .

-- Tighten the new chain sprocket retaining bolt -arrow-. Tightening specification. Refer to  OVERVIEW - CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAINS => List Item:60 Nm +.

-- Install the camshaft drive timing chain. Refer to Installing: .
