Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing And Installing: Installing:

Conditions:

• Crankshaft at >>TDC<<
• The high pressure pump drive chain sprocket is secured with the Adjustment Tool:T10363 
• The camshafts are secured with the Camshaft Bar:T10068A  .

-- Guide the timing chain from above through the opening in the cylinder head.

-- Install the guide rail -A- and initially only tighten screw -2-.

-- First install the timing chain on the oil pump chain sprocket. The marking -arrow- must align with the center copper-colored chain link -A-.

-- Install the timing chain on the high pressure pump drive chain sprocket. The marking must align with the copper-colored chain link.

-- Tighten the guide rail bolt -1-.

-- Insert the intake camshaft adjuster >>24E<< in the timing chain so that the copper-colored chain link is aligned with the marking on the camshaft adjuster. Screw the camshaft adjuster onto the camshaft by hand.

-- Insert exhaust camshaft adjuster >>32A<< in the timing chain so that the copper-colored chain link is aligned with the marking on the camshaft adjuster. Screw the camshaft adjuster onto the camshaft by hand.

-- Check the position of the copper-colored chain links with respect to the adjustment markings.

-- Install the timing chain tensioner -arrow-. Tightening specification 50 Nm.

-- Remove the Camshaft Bar:T10068A  and tighten the camshaft adjuster. Tightening specification: 60 Nm + ¹ /₄ turn (90°)

NOTE:

Counterhold the camshaft with a 27 mm open end wrench -arrow-. The Camshaft Bar:T10068 A  must not be inserted when tightening or loosening the camshaft adjuster.

Further assembly is performed in reverse order.
