Fuel Tank, Draining With Fuel Pump Installed
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Trim Removal Wedge:3409
- Injection Rate Comparison Meter Kit - Remote Cable:VAG1348/3A
- Connector Test Set:VAG1549D
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester - Test Adapter - 5 Pin:VAS5565
- Fuel Extractor:VAS5190A
- Fuel Extraction - Adapter 3:VAS5190/3
If the :VAS5190A has a suction hose with a mounted tip, then replace the hose with the version that has a tip that is screwed on.
The fuel system is under pressure.
Risk of injury from fuel spraying out.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Wear safety gloves.
- Reduce the pressure: place clean cloths around the connection point and carefully open the connection point.
-- Disconnect the fuel supply line -1-. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
Ignore -2-.
-- Collect leaking fuel with a cleaning cloth.
-- Connect the :VAS5190A and :VAS5190/3 to the fuel supply line.
-- Attach the ground wire of the :VAS5190A to a bare area on the body.
-- Remove the installation opening cover. Refer to FUEL DELIVERY UNIT COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Unlock and disconnect the connector -1- from the sealing flange.
-- Connect the :VAS5565 to the fuel delivery unit -1-.
-- Connect the :VAG1348/3A to the :VAS5565 and the battery positive terminal clamp in the engine compartment.
-- Connect the connection -5- (yellow) on the :VAS5565 to the battery negative terminal using suitable service equipment -3-.
-- To do so, use the :VAG1549D also.
This step allows the fuel pump to run when the engine is not running.
-- Open the fuel filler door unit -2-.
-- Clean the area around the fuel filler neck.
-- Remove the cap -1- for the fuel filler neck.
There is a risk of destroying the fuel pump if it runs dry.
- Never let the fuel pump run >>dry<<.
-- Press the :VAG1348/3A and the shut-off valve on the :VAS5190A until the fuel tank is empty.
