Fuel Tank Bleeding, Checking Without Fuel Tank Leak Detection
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Hand Vacuum Pump:VAS6213
- Engine Bung Set:VAS6122
- Pressure Tester Kit:VAS6550
- Pressure Tester Kit - Adapter Set - Fitting:VAS6550/3-1
- Pressure Tester Kit - Adapter Set - Hose 2:VAS6550/3-2
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
-- Check the DTC memory using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
-- Switch off the ignition.
Check the EVAP Canister Purge Regulator Valve 1 -N80- for Leaks.
-- Release and remove the breather line -2-. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
-- Connect the :VAS6213 to line leading to the EVAP Canister Purge Regulator Valve 1 -N80- using the :VAS6550/3-1 and a commercially available hose.
-- Set the slide ring -1- on the :VAS6213 in position -B- for "pressure".
-- Create approximately 0.1 bar (1.45 psi) pressure using the :VAS6213 .
- If the pressure >>cannot<< be built:
-- Check the line to the EVAP Canister Purge Regulator Valve 1 -N80- for leaks and damage. If no error was detected, then the EVAP Canister Purge Regulator Valve 1 -N80- is leaking. Replace the EVAP Canister Purge Regulator Valve 1 -N80-.
- If the pressure can be built:
The EVAP Canister Purge Regulator Valve 1 -N80- is not leaking.
Vent Hose on EVAP Canister, Checking
-- Release and remove the breather line -2-. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
-- Connect the :VAS6213 with the :VAS6550/3-2 to the EVAP canister line.
-- Remove the right rear wheel housing liner. Refer to OVERVIEW - REAR WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Remove the breather line -3- at connection -T- from the EVAP canister and seal the connection on the EVAP canister with suitable service equipment.
-- Set the slide ring -1- on the :VAS6213 in position -B- for "pressure".
-- Squeeze the :VAS6213 approximately 25 times.
- If >>no<< pressure can be built:
-- The vent connection is OK.
- If pressure can be built:
-- The vent connection -A- on the EVAP canister is blocked. Remove the vent cap -4- and check the vent connection for debris.
EVAP Canister and Breather Line, Checking for Leaks
-- Release and remove the breather line -2-. Disconnect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
-- Connect the :VAS6213 with the :VAS6550/3-2 to the EVAP canister line.
-- Remove the right rear wheel housing liner. Refer to OVERVIEW - REAR WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Remove the breather line -3- at connection -T- from the EVAP canister and seal the connection on the EVAP canister with suitable service equipment.
-- Remove the vent cap from the connection -A- and seal the connection to the EVAP canister -2- with a suitable plug -1- from the :VAS6122 .
-- Set the slide ring -1- on the :VAS6213 in position -B- for "pressure".
-- Create approximately 0.1 bar (1.45 psi) pressure using the :VAS6213 .
- If the pressure can be built:
-- The EVAP canister and the breather line are not leaking.
- If the pressure >>cannot<< be built:
The EVAP canister or the breather line is leaking. First check the EVAP canister for leaks as follows:
1 - The vent connection -A- is sealed.
2 - Connection -T- is sealed.
-- Connect the :VAS6213 to the connection -M- on the EVAP canister -1- using a commercially available hose -3-.
-- Create approximately 0.1 bar (1.45 psi) pressure using the :VAS6213 .
- If pressure >>cannot<< be built, then the EVAP canister is leaking. Determine leaks by listening, feeling or using leak detection spray.
- If pressure can be built, then the EVAP canister is not leaking. Check the breather line.
