Wheel Bearing Unit, Removing And Installing: Removing

The following information describes the removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle as an example.

-- Remove the drive axle threaded connection. Refer to Drive Axle Threaded Connection, Loosening and Tightening .

-- Refer to Wheel, Removing .

-- Push the drive axle out of the wheel bearing unit. Refer to Drive Axle, Removing and Installing .

-- Remove the brake drum. Refer to OVERVIEW - REAR BRAKES, DRUM BRAKES .

-- Unclip the wire -4-.

-- Remove the bolts -2-.

-- Push the outer joint from the drive axle inward and remove the bolts -2-.

-- Remove the wheel bearing unit -3- from the wheel bearing housing -1- outward.

CAUTION:

Contamination and damage to the seal due to incorrect handling of the wheel bearing unit.

- Lift, place and store the wheel bearing unit as shown.

-- Always set the wheel bearing -2- down on the wheel hub -1-.

-- Do not engage at the inside of the splines when lifting up the wheel bearing unit.

-- Only touch the wheel bearing unit at the outside.
