Front SUBFRAME Mount, Replacing

Hydraulic Press: VAS 6178
Assembly Tool: T10620
Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Nut: T10205/8-2

The following information describes the removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle as an example.

Conditions

The help of a second person is necessary for the following procedure.

D - Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/5

U - Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Nut: T10205/8-2

V - Hydraulic Press: VAS 6178

W - Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Thrust Piece: T10205/13

-- Grease the threads of the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Thrust Piece: T10205/13 -W-.

-- Install the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Thrust Piece: T10205/13 -W- in the Hydraulic Press: VAS 6178 -V-.

-- Install the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Thrust Piece: T10205/13 -W- all the way.

-- Lower the rear axle front section. Refer to Rear Axle, Lowering .

-- Completely remove the front subframe bolts.

-- Pry out the cover -1- with an extractor lever -X- on the bearing -2-.

-- Use the engine and gearbox jack to lower the subframe a maximum of 35 mm.

-- Position the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/6 -G- with the collar side downward on the bearing at the front subframe -1-.

-- Install the Assembly Tool - Spindle: T10620/11 -B- in the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/6 -G-.

-- Pay attention that the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/6 -G- is seated correctly on the bearing at the front subframe -1-.

Conditions

The distance -a- between the subframe -2- and the vehicle body -3- is 35 mm.

-- Position the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/1 -H- on the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/5 -D-.

-- Pay attention that the tools are seated in each other.

-- Push the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/5 -D- with Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/1 -H- on the Assembly Tool - Spindle: T10620/11 -B-.

-- The inner edges of the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/1 -H- must be positioned between the recesses on the bearing at the front subframe -1- on the subframe -2-.

-- Hold the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Thrust Piece: T10620/5 -D-.

-- Push the Hydraulic Press: VAS 6178 -V- on the Spindle: T10620/11 -B-.

-- Install the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Nut: T10205/8-2 -U- on the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Spindle: T10620/11 -B-.

-- Install the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Nut: T10205/8-2 -U- in the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Thrust Piece: T10205/13 -W-.

-- Align the tools, at the same time pay attention to correct seating.

-- Pretension the tools and the bearing at the front subframe via the Nut: T10205/8-2 -U-.

-- The Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Nut: T10205/8-2 -U- must be installed flush on the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit -Thrust Piece: T10205/13 -W-.

-- The guide from the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Nut: T10205/8-2 -U- must be seated in the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit -Thrust Piece: T10205/13 -W-.

-- Align the tools again and tighten the Nut: T10205/8-2 -U-.

-- Connect the Foot Pump: VAS 6179 on the Hydraulic Press: VAS 6178 -V-.

CAUTION:

Tools might fall down and injury may occur.

- When pressing out the tool have a second technician secure it from falling.

-- Operate the Pneumatic/Hydraulic Foot Pump: VAS 6179 . Press on the front bearing at the front subframe using the Hydraulic Press: VAS 6178 50 mm.

-- Then remove the pressure on the Hydraulic Press: VAS 6178 via the Foot Pump: VAS 6179 .

-- Lower the tools.

-- Lower the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/5 -D- with Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/1 -H-.

-- Mark the installation position of the bearing at the front subframe -1- to the subframe -2-.

-- Mark the installation position with a line -arrow- on the bearing at the front of the subframe -1- and on the subframe -2-.

-- Reposition the tools.

-- Align the tools, and pay attention to proper seating.

-- Completely press out the bearing at the front subframe.

Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:

-- Transfer the markings from the old bearings at the front subframe for the installation position to the new bearings at the front subframe.

-- Position the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/7 -I- with the collar side on the subframe -2-.

-- Pay attention that the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/7 -I- is seated correctly on the edge of the subframe -2-.

-- Install the Assembly Tool - Spindle: T10620/11 -B- in the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/7 -I-.

-- Position the front subframe bearing -1- to the subframe -2-, the long side from the ridge is parallel to the direction of travel when doing so.

-- Slide the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/10 -F- in the -direction of the arrow- on the Spindle: T10620/11 -B-.

-- Position the Assembly Tool - Thrust Piece: T10620/10 -F- on the cover -3-.

-- Push the Hydraulic Press: VAS 6178 -V- on the Spindle: T10620/11 -B-.

-- Install the Nut: T10205/8-2 -U- on the Spindle: T10620/11 -B- and tighten hand-tight.

-- Align the tools, at the same time pay attention to correct seating.

-- The long side -arrows- of the cover -3- is seated parallel to the direction of travel.

-- Check the position of the front subframe bearing -1-, and align.

-- Pretension the tools and the bearing at the front subframe -1- via the Nut: T10205/8-2 -U-.

-- Align the tools again and tighten the Nut: T10205/8-2 -U-.

-- The guide from the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit - Nut: T10205/8-2 -U- must be seated in the Bearing Installer - Wheel Hub/Bearing Kit -Thrust Piece: T10205/13 -W-.

-- Operate the Pneumatic/Hydraulic Foot Pump: VAS 6179 . Press in the front subframe bearing -1- using the Hydraulic Press: VAS 6178 -V- until the collar is positioned without play on the subframe -2-.
