Final Drive, Removing And Installing, Golf Wagon From My 2014 And Golf Wagon From My 2017: Installing
Install in reverse order of removal:
-- Secure the final drive from falling using the strap from the universal mount.
-- Move the rear final drive to the position shown.
-- Make sure that the stop washers -2- are positioned on the rear bearings from above as shown. Correct placement prevents the pins -1- from falling or sliding out of the washers when installing.
-- Lift the final drive and guide it over the rear axle. At the same time, guide the drive axles to the flange shafts while lifting.
Through generation V
-- Connect the connector -A- to the All-Wheel Drive Control Module -J492-.
From generation VI
-- Insert the connector -1- and route the wire.
Continuation for All
-- Connect the vent lines -arrows- to the final drive vent pipes.
-- Lift the final drive into the installation position using the transmission jack.
-- Place the driveshaft on the tunnel brace; place a cleaning cloth between them for protection.
-- Push the final drive as far as possible toward the rear.
-- Attach the driveshaft to the flange/driveshaft on the rear final drive so that the markings -arrows- line up. Then install the bolts hand-tight.
-- When removing and installing the driveshaft, always be careful not to damage the bushing -arrow-.
-- Place the washer -C- on the front mounting bracket and hand-tighten with a new bolt -B-. Do not tighten the bolt yet.
-- Insert two >>new<< bolts -arrow- through the holes in the luggage compartment floor and tighten. Tightening specification Refer to OVERVIEW - FINAL DRIVE .
-- If it has not already been done, replicate the corrosion protection on the applicable holes in the luggage compartment using the materials specified by the manufacturer. Refer to the appropriate Paint Repair Information.
-- Seal the holes with Cap:N 908 572 01 or Cap:N 908 572 02 .
-- Install the trim panel and carpet -A-. Refer to OVERVIEW - LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR .
-- Tighten the final drive from >>underneath<< -arrow-. Tightening specification Refer to OVERVIEW - FINAL DRIVE .
-- Tighten the driveshaft. Tightening specification Refer to OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT .
-- Connect the connector -B- to the All-Wheel Drive Control Module -J492- -A-. Ignore item -C-.
- For the next steps it is important that the multi-link suspension springs are removed. This applies to the right and left side.
-- Position the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931 -1- under the tie rod and push upward until the drive axle can be inserted into the final drive flange.
Ignore -items 2 and 3-.
-- Tighten the drive axles. Tightening specification. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the rear section of the exhaust system. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER .
-- Install the rear stabilizer bar. Refer to STABILIZER BAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
If the final drive is replaced:
-- Check the oil level of the all-wheel drive clutch. Refer to OIL LEVEL, CHECKING .
-- Check the final drive oil level. Refer to GEAR OIL .
-- Perform the basic setting for a "new" All-Wheel Drive Clutch Pump -V181- after installing.
