Final Drive, Removing And Installing, Cc From My 2012, PASSAT From My 2011 And PASSAT Wagon From My 2011: Installing

-- Secure the final drive from falling using the strap from the universal mount.

-- Move the final drive to the position shown.

-- Lift the final drive and guide the rear bearings -arrows- over the subframe, while ensuring there is sufficient clearance to the other components.

-- Connect the connector -A- to the All-Wheel Drive Control Module -J492-.

From generation VI

-- Insert the connector -1- and route the wire.

Continuation for All

-- Connect the vent lines -arrows- to the final drive vent pipes.

-- Lift the final drive into the installation position using the transmission jack.

-- Place the driveshaft on the tunnel brace; place a cleaning cloth between them for protection.

-- Push the final drive as far as possible toward the rear.

-- Attach the driveshaft to the flange/driveshaft on the rear final drive so that the markings -arrows- line up. Then install the bolts hand-tight.

-- When removing and installing the driveshaft, always be careful not to damage the bushing -arrow-.

-- Place the washer -C- on the front mounting bracket.

-- Hand-tighten the final drive from >>below<< -B- but do not tighten the bolt yet.

-- Install both drive axles.

-- Insert two >>new<< bolts -arrow- through the holes in the luggage compartment floor and tighten. Tightening Specification. Refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME .

-- If it has not already been done, replicate the corrosion protection on the applicable holes in the luggage compartment using the materials specified by the manufacturer. Refer to the appropriate Paint Repair Information.

-- Seal the holes with Cap:N 908 572 01  or Cap:N 908 572 02  .

-- Install the trim panel and carpet. Refer to OVERVIEW - LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR .

-- Tighten the final drive from >>underneath<< -arrow-. Tightening specification Refer to OVERVIEW - FINAL DRIVE .

-- Tighten the driveshaft. Tightening specification Refer to OVERVIEW - DRIVESHAFT .

-- Tighten the drive axles. Tightening specification. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the center tunnel heat shield under the intermediate bearing. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS .

-- Install the rear section of the exhaust system. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER .

-- Install the rear stabilizer bar. Refer to STABILIZER BAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

If the final drive is replaced:

-- Check the oil level of the all-wheel drive clutch. Refer to OIL LEVEL, CHECKING .

-- Check the final drive oil level. Refer to GEAR OIL .
