Sealing Flange, Removing And Installing, Belt Pulley Side

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Sealant. Refer to the appropriate Electronic Parts Information.
Applicator Gun:VAS 6966

Locking Fluid:D 154 100 A1

Removing

-- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the vibration damper. Refer to VIBRATION DAMPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -1- and -2-.

-- Carefully pry up the sealing flange.

-- Remove any sealant residue from the sealing surfaces.

Installing:

-- Use the Cleaning Solution:D 291 091 A1 to clean the sealing surfaces on the sealing flange.

-- Coat the lower sealing surface on the sealing flange >>cross-hatched<< thin with sealant.

-- Apply a sealant bead with a diameter of about 2 to 3 mm to the clean sealing surface for the sealing flange as shown -arrow-.

-- Apply a thin bead of sealant on the edge between cylinder block and oil pan -arrows-.

NOTE:

Cover the seal with a clean cloth before applying the sealant bead.

The sealant bead must not be thicker than 2 to 3 mm or excess sealant could get into the oil pan and clog the oil intake pipe strainer.

Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.

The sealing flange must be installed within five minutes after applying the silicone sealant.

-- Carefully push the sealing flange -1- via the supplied guide sleeve -2- on the crankshaft journal.

-- Insert the sealing flange bolt using Locking Fluid:D 154 100 A1 and tighten as follows:

Step	Bolts	Tightening Specification
1.	-1-	Hand-tight
2.	-2-	Hand-tight
3.	-1-	10 Nm
4.	-2-	11 Nm

-- Install the vibration damper. Refer to VIBRATION DAMPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
