Right Seal On Right Flange Shaft, Replacing, Fwd With Front Axle Differential Lock: Removing

The right drive axle must be removed later in the procedure.

-- With the vehicle still standing on its wheels, loosen the right front collar bolt -arrow- a maximum of 90°. Otherwise the wheel bearing will get damaged. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If equipped, remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Drain the oil from the front axle differential lock. Refer to FRONT AXLE DIFFERENTIAL LOCK FLUID, DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Remove the drive axle heat shield -arrows-. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the right drive axle. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Use a Socket to remove the right flange shaft bolt -arrow- Insert two bolts in the flange and counterhold the flange shaft with the tire iron.

-a- = washer

-- Bolt the flange shaft to the Slide Hammer Set: VW771  and remove it.

NOTE:

The flange shaft is secured with a circlip -arrow-.

Please check whether the circlip -arrow- is equipped.

If necessary, remove the circlip from the seal area -1- or near the ball bearing -2-.

-- Pry the seal -1- out of the flange shaft with a lever.
