ABS Control Module -J104- /ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, WITH 4-CYLINDER GASOLINE ENGINE AND ABS MARK 60 EC ABS/EDL/ASR/ESP: Removing

Component Location:

The ABS Control Module -J104- is attached to the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- and is located inside the engine compartment on the right side.

Brake Booster with Tandem Brake Master Cylinder

WARNING:

Do not bend the brake lines near the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- !

Never forcefully bend the brake lines in the hydraulic unit area.

NOTE:

The battery ground cable must be disconnected for the following procedure. Check if a coded radio is installed. If necessary, obtain anti-theft code beforehand.

CAUTION:

Disconnecting the battery can result in damage to electronic components.

Follow the steps for disconnecting the battery.

Vehicles with 2.0L Gasoline Engine and Turbocharger

-- Remove the engine cover upward from the attaching points -arrows-. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CPLA, CPPA, CPKA, CPRA)ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (DDSA, DDSB) .

-- Open the clamp and remove the air guide hose from the air filter. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR FILTER HOUSING (CPLA, CPPA, CPKA, CPRA) or OVERVIEW - AIR FILTER HOUSING (DDSA, DDSB) .

-- Press the release button to remove the air duct hose -1-.

-- Remove the air duct hose -1- and move it to the side.

-- Remove the air duct pipe bolt -arrow-.

-- Remove the air duct pipe; to do this, loosen the hose clamp -2-.

-- Remove the intake hose between the intermediate pipe and the turbocharger.

-- Seal the turbocharger with the : VAS6122 .

Vehicles with 1.4L Gasoline Engine, Turbocharger and Compressor:

-- Remove the engine cover -arrow A- and the heat shield -arrow B-. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (CPLA, CPPA, CPKA, CPRA)ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (DDSA, DDSB) .

-- Remove the pressure pipe with the regulating flap control unit -2-. Refer to OVERVIEW - INTAKE MANIFOLD (CPLA, CPPA, CPKA, CPRA) or OVERVIEW - INTAKE MANIFOLD (DDSA, DDSB) .

-- Remove the charge air pipe -1-. Refer to [For engine(s) DDSB, DDSA] Charge Air System or [For engine(s) CPPA, CPRA, CPKA, CPLA] Charge Air System .

-- If equipped, remove the nut -1- and remove the heat shield -2-.

-- Disconnect and remove the connector from the ABS Control Module -J104- in direction of -arrow-.

-- Insert the : VAG1869/2 .

-- Remove front left caps -1-.

-- Remove rear left caps -1-.

Use a suitable bleeder hose

It must fit tightly on the bleeder valve so that no air can get into the brake system

-- Attach the bleeder bottle bleed hose -1- to the left front brake caliper breather valve.

-- Open the breather valve.

-- Attach the bleeder bottle bleed hose -1- to the brake caliper breather valve/left rear brake cylinder.

-- Open the breather valve.

-- Push the brake pedal at least 60 mm using the : VAG1869/2 .

-- Close the left front and left rear bleeder valves.

Do not remove the : VAG1869/2 .

-- Place enough lint-free cloths under the ABS Control Module -J104- and the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-.

Make sure no brake fluid gets on the contacts

CAUTION:

Do not confuse the brake lines when connecting them to the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-. Mark the lines in their installed position before removing them.

-- First label both brake lines from the brake master cylinder -A and B-.

-- Remove the brake lines -A and B- from the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-.

-- Immediately seal the threaded holes with the plugs from the assembly repair kit.

-- Close brake lines immediately using Sealing Plugs or with suitable plugs from the : VAS6122 .

-- Label brake lines -1 through 4- and then remove them.

-- Immediately seal the threaded holes with the plugs from the assembly repair kit.

-- Close brake lines immediately using Sealing Plugs or with suitable plugs from the : VAS6122 .

-- Remove the hex fitting bolt from the bracket -arrow-.

-- Remove the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- with the ABS Control Module -J104- and the bracket sideways in direction of -arrow- from the rubber bushings on the bracket.

-- Turn the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55- with the ABS Control Module -J104- upside down.

-- Remove the bracket in the vehicle from the hydraulic unit -arrows- (only on engines with too little clearance between the cross panel and engine).
