Suspension Strut, Servicing

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Torque Wrench 40-200NmVAG1332
• Spring CompressorVAG1752/1
• 2 Spring Holders (80-165mm)VAG1752/4
• Suspension Strut Clamping BlockVAG1752/20
• Shock Absorber SetT10001
• Ratchet (commercially available)

-- Remove suspension strut. Refer to Removing .

Coil Spring, Removing 

-- Tension the Suspension Strut Clamping BlockVAG1752/20 -4- in a vice.

-- Tension the suspension strut in the Suspension Strut Clamping BlockVAG1752/20 -4-.

-- Pretension the coil spring using the Spring CompressorVAG1752/1 until the upper axial groove ball bearing is free.

2. Ring Spanner Insert AF 21T10001/8
3. Spring CompressorVAG1752/1
4. Suspension Strut Clamping BlockVAG1752/20
5. 2 Spring Holders (80-165mm)VAG1752/4
6. Ring Spanner Insert AF 21T10001/5
7. RatchetT10001/11

-- Make sure the coil spring fits correctly inside the 2 Spring Holders (80-165mm)VAG1752/4 -arrows-.

-- Remove hex nut from piston rod.

-- Remove individual components of suspension strut and coil spring with Spring CompressorVAG1752/1.

Coil Spring, Installing

-- Install the coil spring on the lower spring plate using the Spring CompressorVAG1752/1.

End of spring coil must rest against stop -arrow-.

-- Tighten new hex nut to piston rod.

-- Relieve the tension on the Spring CompressorVAG1752/1 and remove from the coil spring.

-- Suspension strut, installing. Refer to Installing .

Tightening Specifications

• Refer to SUSPENSION STRUT AND UPPER CONTROL ARM OVERVIEW .
