Battery, Disconnecting And Connecting

Battery -A-, Disconnecting

-- Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers and remove the ignition key.

CAUTION:

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components:

When working on pyrotechnic components (for example airbag, belt tensioner), it is necessary to disconnect the Battery with the ignition turned on, contrary to the following description, refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .

Vehicles With A Battery Housing

-- Open the locking mechanism -arrow- and remove the Battery case cover.

Vehicles With A Battery Jacket

-- Open the Battery jacket -1-.

All Vehicles

-- Disconnect the Battery terminal ground cable -3- on the Battery negative terminal.

Battery -A-, Connecting

CAUTION:

Observe the information regarding the threaded connection of the Battery terminals BATTERY GENERAL INFORMATION .

After connecting the Battery -A- and switching the ignition on, the ASR/ESP Indicator Lamp -K155- lights up continuously. The ASR/ESP Indicator Lamp -K155- goes out automatically if a straight distance is driven at 15 to 20 km/h. This activates the Steering Angle Sensor -G85-.

CAUTION:

Always follow the instructions regarding disconnecting and connecting the Battery -A-, refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- Disconnect the connector -5- on the Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367- -3-.

-- Connect the ground cable -4- to the negative terminal of the Battery -A- -6- and tighten the nut.

-- Close the Battery jacket or install the Battery case cover and lock it into place.

-- After Installation, the Battery -A- must be adapted with the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, refer to ADAPTING Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367- .

-- Perform the work steps listed in the Table.

Work Steps Required After Reconnecting The Battery -A-

Work steps	Completed?
Switch the ignition on using the ignition key and switch it off again.
Read the DTC memory using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
Clock: Check the clock and set to correct time if necessary
Electrical window regulators: Open all windows completely and close again. Comfort control for the window regulator: While comfort switching is operated, window must close without holding the switch.
Perform function test of all electrical consumers.
