Input Shaft Overview

NOTE:
When installing new gears or a new input shaft, refer to CODES LETTERS, ALLOCATION AND CAPACITIES and to the Parts Information.
The input shaft must be adjusted because the position of the tapered roller bearing is affected when parts are replaced. Pay attention to the adjustment overview, refer to ADJUSTMENT OVERVIEW .
Replace both tapered roller bearings together.
Heat the toothed gear and synchronizer hub to approximately 100 °C (212 °F) using the Hot Air BlowerV.A.G. 1416. Wear safety gloves.

- Bearing Inner Race/Tapered Roller Bearing
- Input Shaft
- Adjusting, refer to INPUT SHAFT, ADJUSTING .
- 3rd Gear
- Lock Ring
- Always replace when removing.
- 4th Gear
- Bearing Inner Race/Tapered Roller Bearing
- Thrust Washer
- Outer Race/Tapered Roller Bearing
- Adjusting Shim
- To select the correct thickness, refer to INPUT SHAFT, ADJUSTING .
- Transmission Housing
- Sleeve
- Needle Bearing
- For 5th gear.
- 5th Gear
- 5th Gear Synchronizer Ring
- Spring
- Locking Pieces
- Quantity: 3
- Installed position, refer to Figure.
- 5th Gear Synchronizer Hub
- Removing individually, refer to 5TH GEAR AND TRANSMISSION HOUSING COVER .
- Remove with the transmission housing, refer to TRANSMISSION .
- 5th Gear Locking Collar
- Remove with the 5th gear synchronizer hub -item 19-.
- Plate Spring
- Installed position, refer to Fig 4.
- Bolt
- Tightening specification, see -item 4- in TRANSMISSION HOUSING COVER AND 5TH GEAR OVERVIEW .
- Always replace after removing.
- Holds in position with the adapter on the plate spring bolt head, refer to Fig 4.
