EGR Temperature Sensor -G98-

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Hose Clamps up to 25 mm Diameter 094
Torque Wrench 5-50 Nm V.A.G 1331
Drip TrayVAS 6208
Hose Clip Pliers VAS 6362
14 mm socket T10401 (not illustrated)

Requirements

The ignition is off.
Engine must be cold.

Procedure

Assembly Overview of vehicle from below:

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Drain the coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .

NOTE:

The coolant hoses indicated must be removed and moved to the side to perform assembly work on the EGR Temperature Sensor -G98-.

-- Remove the coolant hoses from both connections -arrow A- and -arrow D-.

-- Move both coolant hoses -arrow B- and -arrow C- to the side as shown in the figure.

Assembly overview of engine compartment from above:

-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER .

CAUTION:

Electronic components could be destroyed when the Battery -- is disconnected:

Complete the steps for disconnecting the Battery --.

-- With the ignition switched off, disconnect the ground wire -arrow- on the Battery --.

-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING .

-- Remove the Battery -- and the battery tray. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Disconnect the connector from the EGR temperature sensor -G98- -arrow A- and guide the wire out.

NOTE:

Pay attention to the wire routing and to the installed position of the heat shield.

The figure shows the EGR Temperature Sensor -G98- as seen from the engine compartment looking out from the transmission side -arrow- below the brake master cylinder.

-- Guide 14 mm SocketT10401 onto the EGR Temperature Sensor -G98- with a socket extension.

-- Guide the EGR Temperature Sensor -G98- cable into the groove -arrow A- 14 mm SocketT10401.

-- Remove the EGR Temperature Sensor -G98-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

-- Cut out the gasket and replace if it is damaged or leaks.

Tightening Specifications

EGR Temperature Sensor -G98-. Refer to EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION OVERVIEW .

CAUTION:

Install the heat shield mats in their original locations.

Make sure the entire connection is seated securely.

Replace the self-locking nuts, the seals, the gaskets and clamps after removing them.

Hoses are secured with spring-type clips.

Pliers for Spring Clamps VAS 6362 or Hose Clamp Pliers VAS 6340 are recommended for installing spring clamps.
