Battery, Disconnecting And Connecting

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

CAUTION:

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components:

Disconnecting

-- Switch off the ignition and all electrical equipment and remove the ignition key.

Vehicles with a Battery Housing

-- Open the locking mechanism -arrow- and remove the battery case cover.

Vehicles with a Battery Jacket

-- Open the battery jacket -1-.

Continuation for All Vehicles

-- Loosen the nut on the battery ground cable clamp -3- several turns.

-- Remove the battery ground cable clamp -3- from the Battery -A- -1-.

Connecting

After connecting the Battery -A- and switching the ignition on, the ASR/ESP Indicator Lamp -K155- lights up continuously. The ASR/ESP Indicator Lamp -K155- goes out automatically if a straight distance is driven at 15 to 20 km/h (9 to 12 mph). This reactivates the Steering Angle Sensor -G85-.

-- Release and disconnect the connector -5- from the Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367- -3-.

-- Apply the battery ground cable clamp -4- on the negative terminal of the Battery -A- -6-.

-- Tighten the nut from the battery ground cable clamp -4- to the tightening specification.

-- Reconnect the connector -5- to the Battery Monitoring Control Module -J367- -3-.

-- Close the battery jacket or install the battery case cover and lock it into place.

-- Turn on the ignition.

-- Check the time and if necessary adjust.

-- Window, open and close all the way.

-- Then, with the windows closed, pull the power window switch until the relay audibly switches.

-- Check the window regulator convenience switch.

While comfort switching is operated, window must close without holding the power window switch.

NOTE:

After connecting the power supply, the ASR/ESP Indicator Lamp -K155- may only go out after the vehicle has been driven a few yards.
