Overview - VALVETRAIN: Notes

CAUTION:
Risk of damaging the valves and piston crowns after working on valvetrain.
- The motor must not be started for about 30 minutes after installing camshafts because the hydraulic lifters must seat themselves.
- To ensure valves do not strike pistons when starting, carefully rotate the crankshaft at least two turns.
- Bolt
- Tightening specification. Refer to OVERVIEW - GLOW PLUG SYSTEM .
- Camshaft Position Sensor -G40-
- Overview. Refer to OVERVIEW - GLOW PLUG SYSTEM .
- O-ring
- Always replace after removing.
- Cap
- Replace after removing.
- Removing: with the camshaft housing installed, pierce through one side of the cover with a punch and pry it out.
- Installing: drive in without sealant until it is flush using a suitable thrust piece, such as the :3390
- Camshaft Seal
- Replace after removing. Refer to CAMSHAFT SEAL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Camshaft Housing
- With integrated camshafts

- Bolt

- Camshaft Adjuster

Between the camshaft adjuster and camshaft stub there is a friction disc -item ) OVERVIEW - VALVETRAIN - Friction Disc installed for connection security. Before installing it must be checked that this friction disc is in the camshaft adjuster. Otherwise the camshaft adjuster can become loose while the engine is running and damage the engine.
- Removing and installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

- Before installing check that the camshaft adjuster is present
- Alignment Pin

- Do not rework, only lapping is permitted
- Mark the installed position for reinstallation.
- Checking using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. Refer to VALVES, CHECKING .
- Valve Dimensions. Refer to VALVE DIMENSIONS .
- Valve Guides, Checking. Refer to VALVE GUIDES, CHECKING .
- Intake Valve
- Do not rework, only lapping is permitted
- Mark the installed position for reinstallation.
- Checking using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. Refer to VALVES, CHECKING .
- Valve Dimensions. Refer to VALVE DIMENSIONS .
- Valve Guides, Checking. Refer to VALVE GUIDES, CHECKING .
- Cylinder Head
- The valve seat may not reworked due to a close tolerances.
- Valve Stem Seal
- Replace after removing. Refer to VALVE STEM SEALS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Valve Spring
