Camshaft Housing, Removing And Installing: Installing

CAUTION:

Risk of contaminating the lubricating system and the bearing.

Cover open engine components.

WARNING:

Risk of eye injury.

Wear protective eyewear!

-- Using a rotating plastic brush, remove any sealant residue from the cylinder head and the camshaft housing.

-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.

NOTE:

Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 1.5 mm).

CAUTION:

Risk of contaminating camshaft bearing with excess sealant.

Do not apply sealant beads thicker than indicated.

-- Apply a sealant bead -arrow- to the clean sealing surfaces on the camshaft housing as shown.

Sealant bead thickness: 2 mm.

NOTE:

Install the camshaft housing within five minutes of applying the sealant.

After installing the camshaft housing, let the sealant harden for approximately 30 minutes.

-- Carefully place the camshaft housing on the cylinder head pay attention to the alignment pins while doing so.

-- Tighten the bolts for the camshaft housing. Refer to Camshaft Housing - Tightening Specification and Sequence .

Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal, while noting the following:

-- Install the emissions control module. Refer to EMISSIONS CONTROL MODULE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the camshaft shaft seal. Refer to CAMSHAFT SEAL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the cylinder head cover. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the toothed belt (adjust valve timing). Refer to TOOTHED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the valves and piston crowns after working on valvetrain.

The motor must not be started for about 30 minutes after installing camshafts because the hydraulic lifters must seat themselves.
To ensure valves do not strike pistons when starting, carefully rotate the crankshaft at least two turns.

NOTE:

After installing new parts (engine/partial engine, cylinder head, camshaft housing or turbocharger), the oil pressure regulation is to be limited to the high pressure stage for approximately 1000 km. From this, the higher friction is taken into account when breaking in new components, and the optimum removal of particles from the initial wear in is ensured. To do so, connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester, Switch On The Ignition And Select The Following Menu Items:
