Valve Timing, Checking
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
CAUTION:
There is a risk of damaging the engine by the toothed belt jumping off.
- Only turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation.
-- Turn the crankshaft by the toothed belt sprocket bolt two turns in the direction of engine rotation until the crankshaft is once again just in front of "TDC".
-- Mount the :T10490 back on the crankshaft toothed belt sprocket.
-- Turn the crankshaft in direction of engine rotation, until the pin -arrow- on the crankshaft stop fits into the sealing flange.
CAUTION:
An inaccurate "TDC" setting will cause an adjustment error.
- If the crankshaft was turned past "TDC" : Turn the crankshaft again two turns until it is just in front of "TDC". Then secure the crankshaft from moving using the :T10490 .
- It is very difficult to find the locking point on the high pressure pump hub. A small variance -arrow- does not affect engine operation.
- The pointer on the tensioning roller -2- must be in the middle between the tabs -1 and 3- on the base plate.
NOTE:
Permitted lateral offset: maximum 5 mm.
If the conditions are met, then continue with the correct valve timing. Refer to Continuation if the Valve Timing is Correct
If the conditions are not met, correct the valve timing. Refer to Valve Timing, Correcting
